Biographies
Ralph Fuccillo
President
As President of the DentaQuest Foundation and advisor to the DentaQuest Institute since 2006, Ralph Fuccillo has guided the growth of both organizations into reliable partners in oral health solutions. A seasoned leader in the non-profit sector, Mr. Fuccillo has a lifelong career in health and human services, education, and organizational development. An advocate for disease prevention and health promotion, his work focuses on the social determinants of health, policy development, and behavior change to support and promote oral health and reduce preventable illnesses.
Mr. Fuccillo carries his collaborative leadership approach to national and local organizations through Board service on the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Program, Elderhostel, The Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation, and Neighborhood Health Plan, and as a convener of the National Oral Health Funders Group. He is a past President of the Massachusetts Health Council and served the AIDS Action Committee Board of Directors, Harvard School of Public Health Prevention Research Center of the National Community Committee of the CDC Prevention Research Center Program. Mr. Fuccillo has served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Harvard Divinity School and as Lecturer on health and philanthropy at other colleges, universities, and professional conferences. An advocate for the underserved and the work of community health centers, he is a member of the Dimock Community Health Center Board of Visitors. He is the former Executive Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and the former Associate Director of The Medical Foundation. He holds a Masters degree from Fordham University and a Bachelors degree from University of Massachusetts.
Michael Monopoli, DMD, MPH, MS
Director of Policy and Planning
As Director of Policy and Planning for the DentaQuest Foundation, Dr. Monopoli works to strengthen public-private partnerships and community collaborations so oral health is integrated into state and community health programming. Dr. Monopoli is a highly respected public health leader, having served as the dental director of the Office of Oral Health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and more recently, as Director of Dental Health Policy for Dental Services of Massachusetts. Dr. Monopoli was instrumental in the development of the Massachusetts Coalition for Oral Health and the Oral Health Collaborative of Massachusetts. He currently serves on the steering committee of the state’s Oral Health Advocacy Task Force. While at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Dr. Monopoli’s work led to an expansion of the number and geographic distribution of safety net providers of oral health services and the development of oral health training modules for non-dental providers.
Dr. Monopoli is a graduate of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He received Master of Public Health and Master of Science degrees from the Harvard University School of Public Health and completed a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the Veterans Administration.
Brian Souza
Managing Director
As Managing Director, Brian oversees planning, operations, programs, and external affairs for the DentaQuest Foundation. Brian serves on the Board of Directors of Our Space, Our Place, an organization dedicated to preparing blind youth for a lifetime of success. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the Geriatric Institute of Jewish Family & Children’s Service, and as an advisor to Only a Child, a non-profit shelter and support program for street youth in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Prior to his position with the DentaQuest Institute, Brian served as the Executive Director of the Boston Partnership for Older Adults. Additional prior appointments have included serving as an Advisor to the Charles H. Farnsworth Trust - Aging Policy Research Fellowship and the Elder Economic Security Standard Project of the University of Massachusetts Boston. Brian has a Master of Social Work Degree in Planning, Program Development and Human Service Management from Boston University School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology also from Boston University.
Scott Frock
Treasurer
Mr. Frock has been part of the DentaQuest organization since December 2005, holding a variety of high-level financial positions. As Treasurer of the DentaQuest Foundation, he is responsible for all aspects of financial management including accounting, financial planning, and investment management. Mr. Frock has over 25 years of extensive financial management experience in a variety of industries. He has worked with start-ups and mature companies, and has managed both turn-around and growth situations. His past experience includes Westinghouse Financial Services, Cabletron Systems, Unitil, Ernst & Whinney, and technology start-up Segway LLC. Scott received his M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University's Graduate School of Business and his B.S. in Accounting from Lehigh University.
Brenda Lavasta
Grant Management Associate
Brenda Lavasta joined the Foundation as Grant Management Associate in 2008. Previously, she was a Diversity Fellow at the Rhode Island Foundation through the Associated Grant Makers Diversity Fellowship in Philanthropy. The fellowship program aims to inspire the next generation of philanthropic leaders among people of color by offering training and support to a select group of passionate, emerging professionals. Brenda began her career in the Executive Education Department at the Harvard Business School where she held various roles. She received a dual degree in Management and Finance from Simmons College and an MBA from Suffolk University.
Biyi Ogunjimi
Better Oral Health for Massachusetts Coalition Coordinator
Biyi Ogunjimi joined the Foundation in August 2008 to guide the Better Oral Health for Massachusetts Coalition as it organized and wrote a 5-year plan for oral health in Massachusetts. The Coalition successfully presented the plan to legislators and policymakers at the Massachusetts State House in April 2010 and now is at work putting plans into action. Biyi holds a Bachelor in Dental Surgery from the University of Lagos and a Masters in Public Health degree from Harvard University. Biyi offers valuable experience and perspective in public health from his training in health policy and management, his international experience in volunteering on medical missions and overseeing the establishment of a small non-profit organization, as well as his clinical experience and training in dentistry.
Mary Ann Kozlowski
Communications Advisor
As the DentaQuest Foundation’s communications advisor, Mary Ann Kozlowski works to disseminate information about our programs and projects to our many constituent groups. Prior to joining the DentaQuest team, Mary Ann worked in technology, education and health care, providing communications outreach to the media and stakeholders. She holds a master’s degree in public relations and communications from Boston University.
Tracy Garland
Senior Advisor for National Programs
Tracy Garland is the Foundation’s Senior Advisor for National Programs. In this role, she develops and leads initiatives that engage multiple funders in multi-year systems change work including: The Funders Oral Health Policy Group and the National Interprofessional Initiative on Oral Health. She is also a Strategic Advisor to the DentaQuest Institute. Prior to joining the DentaQuest Foundation, Ms. Garland served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Washington Dental Service Foundation. Ms. Garland has also served as the Chief Financial Officer in the public utility and dental insurance industries. She holds a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University.
Patrick Finnerty
Senior Advisor for State Oral Health Programs
Patrick Finnerty serves as the Foundation’s leadership resource to state coalitions and health organizations who are working to incorporate oral health into state policy and programs. Mr. Finnerty has a long history with states and public health programs and a unique appreciation of the challenges they face. He is the former Medicaid Director for Virginia, managed the Virginia state employee health benefits program, and directed a legislative health policy commission. He holds Master of Public Administration and B.S. degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University. Pat is also a veteran volunteer at Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects throughout Virginia, which provide free dental care to thousands of uninsured adults.
