2007 Grants

Equipment Capacity
The safety net (the Safety Net includes Community Health Centers and includes Hospital Licensed Health Centers) is the primary point of oral health care for many disparate populations. The Foundation has funded twenty safety net sites in the last year to strengthen this point of service delivery throughout the state and to enhance the ability of this sector to respond to the oral health needs of their patient populations. These sites are currently working to create greater access to preventive oral health services and show improvements in health equity for populations in greatest need. The results of capacity expansion grants from 2006 and 2007 will be compiled to assess impact and to inform future investments by the Oral Health Foundation.

Safety Net Solutions
Safety Net Solutions is a collaborative program of the Catalyst Institute and the Oral Health Foundation.  The Safety Net Solutions Program improves the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of community health center dental programs through practice management and technology enhancements.  For more information about the Safety Net Solutions program, log on to www.catalystinstitute.org.

As part of this collaborative, the Oral Health Foundation has committed funding to support community health centers that are selected by the Safety Net Solutions Program for technical assistance and infrastructure support to expand and enhance the dental programs. The participating centers participated in a pre-screening assessment and are currently in the process of implementing proposed changes to increase preventive oral health services capacity.

Watch Your Mouth – Statewide Campaign
The Oral Health Foundation has made a multi-year commitment to support the Watch Your Mouth (WYM) campaign, a well-coordinated, multi-phased media and communications campaign to promote the general public’s recognition of oral health as part of overall health and to support efforts to create community-based solutions.

Cultural Competency for Oral Health Professionals
In 2007, the Oral Health Foundation made a funding commitment to support cultural competency training opportunities for oral health professionals.  The Foundation has partnered with the Massachusetts Dental Society to develop, coordinate, and deliver training programs across the state that enhance the cultural competency of dental professionals and reduce barriers to ongoing care.
