Making dentists visits easier
Country Journal, January 4, 2007

Gateway-For those who want to have their child seen by a dentist, but work 30 miles away from home and have to take time off from work, there must be a better way. What if the child could be seen at school?

The above scenario is very common in rural areas where parents drive long distances to work. Two grants from the Oral Health Foundation and the MassHealth Access Program to the Hilltown Community Health Center are meant to change this and improve children's access to dental services.

The Hilltown Community Health Center in conjunction with the Gateway School District is exploring the best way to bring dental services to the schools next year. However, public input is needed in how the schools can best serve children's needs. The school also needs a few parents to work with to ensure that the dental program that is developed meets the needs of the community.

Contact Mary Jo Maffei, Dental Outreach Planner, with suggestions, questions or for information about volunteering to help at 413-238-4117 or mmaffei@hchcweb.org.
