What's New

2004 Federal Medical Panel Expenditure Survey

Colleagues,

Rich Manski at the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality at the University of Maryland has today released a web version of an excellent new chart book on dental visits, expenditures, coverage, and procedures for children, adults, and elders which you may find useful in your work.

This data is from the 2004 federal “Medical Panel Expenditure Survey” and contains comparison with findings from the 1996 survey. Here is the link: http://www.meps.ahrq.gov/mep...

As you examine the data, you may wish to be aware that MEPS provides the most conservative estimates of dental visits of the major national studies (NHANES, NHIS, MEPS) but that sociodemographic trends are consistent across these sources (see “Macek MD, Manski RJ, Vargas CM, Moeller JF. Comparing oral health care utilization estimates in the United States across three nationally representative surveys. Health Serv Res 2002; 37(2):499-521.)

Regards,

Burton
